I'm moving my updates to a different blog, http://www.farah-faisal.blogspot.com, since it's an easier address to remember and spell. It's been a great ride updating this blog, hope you'll follow me on to the next chapter!

Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Batin! I'm excited for Eid :) . Woot! I just wish it's not during the exam week.... that sucks ass so bad. But that's basically how it's been for the past few years... man, I wish I'm back home for Eid right now.

Okay, I better go study.... but I have the TV on and Ann Arbor is featured in that new freakish Comedy Central cartoon show, The Freak Squad (or something like that). Apparently Ann Arbor is the most literate city in the US. I never knew that. I guess the abundance of college kids helps with the statistics....

WAHHHH..... SGT LAME TAK UPDATE :-P

Assalamu'alaikum......

Soooooo.... I haven't updated for a really long time. Whoops... In the time that I've been MIA, apparently Siti Nurhaliza has gotten married, the WB and UPN network has combined to become the CW network (if you're not living in the US or have never been here, this might not mean much to you), my brother has a new girlfriend (ughh....), Brad and Angelina welcomed Shiloh, TomKat FINALLY revealed Suri and Michigan football, in the 6 years that I have been here, is finally undefeated!! Wooottt!! Go Blue!

It's been crazy lately.... school is horrible. Horrible I tell you! I have 4 projects this semester, which I wasn't bargaining for.... I thought it was just gonna be 2! But next semester I am gonna kick back and coast..... take it easy .... 'cause I have a job!!! Yes!!!! I'm going back to Microsoft as a full-time employee. I'm nervous but excited.... after being in school for the past 5 years (6 if you count this one), I'm finally out into the working world.... and moving to Washington. Oh.. my... god...

Okay, enough about that :) . To my friends back in Malaysia who might be reading this (since I haven't updated for the longest time, I might have lost ALL of my readers), I'm coming home this year!! Urmm.. maybe, actually, still working on plane tickets and schedules.... but yay! I can't wait! My waistline and butt diameter has expanded (?), but what the heck, I've been stressed in school, and I can't wait to pig out some more on Malaysian food! Ooooo pagi makan teh tarik ngan roti canai, yummmm.... gie kedai mamak pulun nasi beriyani.... woot!!! Nyahahaha....

Okay, I gotta go. Laterz!

FUN AT MICROSOFT

LoL, so I can't really put up a whole bunch of pics on my blog 'cause I don't really want to wait to upload s***, but here are a few gems that hopefully satisfies those who have been asking "mane gambar weh?". So walla! Here are some pics:

Picture 1:
The living room of my apartment. We have a pretty big 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment. The guys you see are those working in my building, and in case you're wondering, yep, I'm the only girl in the picture...'cause I'm the only girl there. That should give you some perspective on the whole girl-guy ratio, I hope. We were having one of our weekly "Lab Awesome" dinners and came back to my place to watch "Fight Club".

Picture 2:
COSD Intern BBQ and MS Fields. I was riding this huge tricycle ('cause everyone knows I can't ride bikes), and Peter was in my way so I hit him. LoL. Good times.

Picture 3:
Me and my mentor, Winston. Thanks Tristan for the pic! See how cool my mentor is?

So yeah, I'm nearing the completion of my internship. Boohoo :( ..... no more driving my Mustang, coming to work in my OWN cubicle, coming home to my own apartment, going to the Pro Club, Lab Awesome weekly dinners, trips to the beach, clubbing on the weekends, windsurfing, shopping at Macy's, stressing on the weekdays.... okay so I still have the last one, but the fun stuff are going to be OVER! Waaaaa!!!

I'll miss Washington, and my group, and my friends, and all of my "scandals" (hahahaha, you have to be there to understand this one, LoL. I swear it's not as bad as it sounds.) So back to school I go in 12 days :( .... so sad....

Assalamu'alaikum.....

Only 3 more weeks before I go back to Michigan, and I have to say, never have I wanted to not leave a place as much as I do Washington. It's been... quite a ride. The first time I really, really appreciate the "work hard, play hard" philosophy. During the weekdays, it's constant running to meetings and interviews. During the weekends, there's always something new to do.

A couple of weeks ago I went hiking up Mt. Rainier. We were supposed to go uop the easy trail but somehow managed to get our asses up the hard trail, which meant my butt was mostly touching the snow. Brrr.... it was a miserable hike but the view was totally worth it. Who would've known an indoor girl like me would enjoy the outdoors so much.

An then there was windsurfing last weekend in Portland, Oregon. The trip started off pretty crappy because Peter managed to get himself a $280 speeding ticket, but other than that, it was a lot of fun. I can now pretend to know how to windsurf. LoL. I had tonssss of fun, and I got to play in the sun AND in the water, which is always a plus. I was basically bruised all over when I got back home, but the glowing tan was so totally worth it.

Then there was the nightlife. Those in Michigan who've been out with me if only one time can attest to the fact the I loooove to dance. And I love clubs, and I think club hopping should be an Olympic sport. LoL. Seattle has been really good to me in that department. Never a dull moment. I can remember only one night that didn't started off so well, but it ended very well indeed. Ooohhh my lil' secret :) . But anyway, yeah, I think I've been making up a whole year of no dancing in 3 months pretty much. I have no idea how the heck I kept up the pace of no sleep during the weekdays AND the weekend, but I think sleeping all day Sunday helped, heheh.

Then there was Salsa Wednesdays. Yes, I am taking a salsa class. Somehow, there's more guys then there are girls, which of course works to my advantage. Those were fun, too. I get to spin around and dance with a bunch of different people and learn how to move on the dance floor..... did I meantion how much I love dancing? LoL.

Then there's all the Microsoft activities: BBQs, cruises, free lunch during informational meetings, training classes ..... omigosh, you are worked to bones, but the benefits are totally worth it. Best part: except for the first day, never have I had to put on ANYTHING formal to go to work. How cool is that. It's t-shirts, jeans and flip flops. Every. Single. Day. Bliss.

Why do I have to leave and go back to Michigan... :(

BILL GATES’ SUMMER INTERN BBQ

Assalamu’alaikum…..

Work has been piling up in the worse way these last few days, again, I went from slow to omigod-that’s-fast mode in the shortest time possible. The silver lining? Bill Gates’ intern BBQ yesterday, which me and Anna and a couple hundred other interns attended. His house is HUGE. Massive, in fact. And we probably saw only 10% of his house. Oh, and it has the most gorgeous view ever…. it’s right beside the lake, where across the lake you can see a view of downtown Seattle. Gorgeous. There were people water-skiing and fishing and all that right in front of his house. The food was excellent (of course), the view great, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The Man himself was pretty down-to-Earth, considering he is worth 50 billion dollars. Most of the VPs were there, too. There is a huge crowd around Bill G all the time, so I decided to just talk to one of the VPs about possible careers on information technology instead. Very cool guy, I’m looking forward to future interactions.

Aside from seeing The Man Who’s Company I Work For, and the VPs, I also managed to make more friends. Since the girl-guy ratio at Microsoft is roughly 3-7, of course most of the new people I met were guys. In my department, the ratio is probably even worse, I barely see any girls at all, and there are only 2 female interns in the whole building. Weird. Anyway, one of the topics that was brought was of course, the girl-guy ratio, and how people are complaining that the girls have a better time finding dates ‘cause of the abundance of guys. Erm, excuse me? “Abundance of dates”? You’re implying that I have an easier time because I get to choose one pocket-protector wearing dork face over 20? Do you not realize us girls try to not go for the geeks, even if they do have potential to make more money than half of the population in Washington? I’d rather be with someone normal who has time for me than a rich workaholic who lives at the office. It’s a debate that never stops.

Today I managed to annoy my mentor a bit. I brought my normal click ballpoint pen to our weekly sync meeting, and somehow I have this habit of clicking the pen while talking. He had to take that thing twice away from me and even made the simile “Chinese water torture” to describe how nuts my clicking made him feel. I was, of course, thoroughly mortified, but I can understand why it would be annoying, especially in the cramped up office space we were in. Go figure.

At lunch, I had to go see a chiropractor because I hurt my back. He did a few things that involves cracking my bones and a world of pain, but hey, if it makes me better, then bring it on dude! Note to Farah: next time when you kickbox, try not to do too much of the kicking.

Here’s a couple of gems that I got from my conversations with Dan:

1. From the time I was sleepy and wanted to sakat him

Farah l [4:21 PM]:
ngantuk
Daniel [4:21 PM]:
bless you
Farah l [4:21 PM]:
= sleepy (in slang malay)
Farah [4:21 PM]:
hahahaha
Farah [4:21 PM]:
that was so far off
Daniel [4:21 PM]:
:)

2.
Farah [4:09 PM]:
you have 2 monitors now?
Daniel [4:09 PM]:
yup
Farah [4:09 PM]:
cool
Farah [4:10 PM]:
how do you set up 2 monitors?
Daniel [4:11 PM]:
next to each other

Yep, the man is that poyo…

Assalamu’alaikum…..

Note to self: never go to the gym after a night of hookah. Or maybe the note should just read “Never go on a hookah night again”. If you don’t know what a hookah is, you’re better off (no, it’s not weed, do some more guessing. This is totally legal). Dan put together a nice lil’ outing group of Microsoft interns and we went to Zaina’s for food and hookah. Yummm.. fruity, LoL. It was interesting night, the food was just so-so but the café was pretty casual that you can basically just be loud and no one cares. It was a night of cool people and one über bitch who shall remain nameless (mostly because I don’t want to get sued). We got two hookahs (is that the plural of it?), one lime flavored and one double apple, and they were both pretty good. Apparently my hands are always holding at least one of the two tubes, ‘cause someone commented I got “some lungs” on me.

Anyway, so after hookah night, I went to the gym yesterday for my weekly Thursday step class. It was painful. I could do the combinations for only about 10 minutes, and then I have to stop to get some water. It was weird, I was never really that tired before…. Until I remember the whole hookah thingamajiggy. Oops. Although the fruity goodness of hookah is currently unparalleled, I don’t think my poor lungs can handle it anymore… even if I do have some lungs on me. Nyahahah. No more! LoL. I wonder if hookahs are legal in Malaysia?

Fun nights out are always… well, fun, but not to a point where it interferes with my gym time or work. So I’m limiting my nights out to just during the weekend and not so much during the weekdays, ‘cause I don’t think my poor body, or my poor bank account, can handle it.

I got the bulk of my work yesterday, and today is gonna be spent trying valiantly to do some decent research. I have a great mentor, and it’s really, really important for me to try and impress him. Something funny happened on Wednesday, my mentor scheduled a meeting between me and himself, but forgot to send me the invite, so of course after 8 minutes past the meeting time and I didn’t show, he figured something was up and he called me. I had to smile when he explained the mix-up because for years I was always the one who was late for stuff, and it’s funny because now, if I’m late for anything, people would figure out that something must be wrong or there was a mix-up somewhere. Imagine that. I guess I am growing up then :) . But anyway, I’m excited to get out and start interviewing people, and come up with my questionnaire, this is gonna be tough but I shall prevail, LoL.

Oh yeah… the scavenger hunt. It was fun, I got to go to Pike Place market again, which is always cool. I bought some of the fruit sticks that I like. I wanted to find the guy who made my cap for me, since I never received it, he wasn’t there, probably due to the slight rain earlier in the day. Anyway, after the hunt, we went to Golden Park Beach for food and a bonfire, which was soooo much fun. It was cool to meet so many new non-technical interns, and the beach was gorgeous. I really have to go back there before I return to Ann Arbor, the beach is just perfect. I kinda miss home now, I remember the Pangkor and Cherating trips with my family, as well as going to Tioman with my friends. Hopefully all goes well with my plan of coming back to Malaysia in December. Can’t wait. Hakam is in Brunei now, which sucks (hopefully he’ll be back in Malaysia for the December holidays), but hopefully I’ll get to see everyone else.

Waaa… nak balik rumah!

Assalamu’alaikum….

I have a one-pager due for my questionnaire. If I screw up on the sub projects, it’s still forgivable, but this is my major project for the summer. They hired me specifically to work on the questionnaire thingamajiggy. If I ever want to come back and work for the company, I better not screw this one up. But I’m having a bit of a mental block with this particular one-pager. It shouldn’t be that hard! I’ve written 20-pages long papers! 2,000 word essays! And yet this one-pager wants me to tear my hair out.

Anyway, moving on to the fun stuff now. I have a Scavenger Hunt for non-tech interns today in downtown Seattle. Yay! Half a day out of the office! Free dinner! Woo hoo! I’m excited :) . It’s a chance for me to meet non-technical interns, too. I feel kinda weird that I’m lumped in the non-technical group, because I feel like I’m doing technical stuff both in school and out of it, but I guess I shouldn’t bother with the specifics. It’s to my advantage in this case, anyway. I can’t wait for the trip (20 more minutes to go!). I just have to go and buy a sweatshirt first because being the smart person I am, I forgot to bring one, and while that might not matter at the office, it’s kinda freezing outside… with potential to rain. Ah, Seattle. It rains so much I wonder how people ever get the chance to enjoy the beautiful beaches.

Last weekend Lauren, Dan and I went on our normal triple date together. We decided to hit Kirkland on Saturday and see how the nightlife is like. Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. Tiki Joe’s Wetbar…. Boring. TJ’s…. a bit better, but I was a bit creeped out when a bunch of 40 to 50-year-old ladies started “boogeying” on the floor to Usher and Lil’ Jon. Erk. It wasn’t particularly fun… and now we know. To make up for a sucky Saturday, we’re going to a hookah place on Wednesday. Yay to that!

15 more minutes to go until I get to skip outta here. Someone else is driving, thankfully enough, so I don’t have to pay for gas, LoL. Plus driving back from Seattle is gonna be horrible with the crawling traffic… so I refused to volunteer to drive, heheheh. I’ve been driving people around all week anyway, when we hit the Taphouse Grill place, and I know more driving will come this weekend, so let me take a breather first for now. Though I do know some people are excited when I have to drive ‘cause they can pile on the Mustang.

I need to renew my passport ASAP so that I can go to Vancouver before the summer ends!!! Aaacckkk!! Hopefully Kong is gonna come and visit me so maybe we can go there together :).

Gotta go back to reviewing those damn emails. Later!

Assalamu’alaikum……

Today didn’t go exactly as I planned. I got in to work at about 8.20am, which isn’t bad considering we have flex hours, but it would’ve been nice to come in extra early when it was quiet and just try and get most of my work done, cause after lunch time, I’m sluggish, and I just don’t wanna do anything. Then I had a meeting where I got lost trying to find the room, then realized that I didn’t have the report we were gonna discuss. Luckily enough nothing major happened.

It’s kinda tough to talk about work ‘cause I have no idea what’s confidential and what’s not, but so far I’ve been very vague about stuff. Just documented my own mishaps in getting lost in the building. Which is probably why I went on and on about the ProSports Club ‘cause that’s the only thing I can really write about without worrying about getting in trouble. But work has been good, went to see a usability test yesterday, then the intern social, and also to an all-girl dinner event afterwards. One would’ve thought that after five years in an all-girl boarding school, I would’ve known better by now, luckily enough for people reading this blog, I haven’t really. LoL. But it wasn’t bad, the food and drinks were good, the location kinda sucked a bit but hey, if I have to get on the freeway just to get to a restaurant, I’d rather have it be that restaurant. Oh, in case you were wondering, we went to the Tap House Bar and Grill, near (or in) Bellevue Mall downtown.

After a week and a half living in the suburbs, I realize that I don’t have time to feel bored. There’s work during the weekdays, then socials during the weekend, and at night, I’d be so pooped from all the day activities I’d go straight to sleep after fighting to stay awake for Isya’ prayers. It’s been a lil’ hectic. On the plus side, I’m better at driving around Redmond now and figuring out where things are, and also figuring out that maneuvering the freeway is the only way I can survive around here.

Lauren, Dan and I are watching X-3 on Saturday. Should be fun, I hope. I liked the previous two movies and I’m hoping the third one doesn’t disappoint. Some of the girls also actually recommended The Break Up, with Jen Aniston and Vince Vaughn. I dunno, it might be worth getting to. Tip no. 1 for me: after last night’s mishaps with directions, I’m gonna look up the address and the general idea of where we’re gonna be headed before I get into anyone’s car. Getting lost is one thing… getting lost in a busy area filled with one-way streets, lots of cars and no apparent ways to make U-turns is not my idea of fun.

I’m not feeling that well right now, something is making me very uncomfortable and I can’t put my finger on it. But the working day is almost ending, yay!

Later!

Assalamu’alaikum….

Haven’t updated my entries for some time now, been really busy with work and stuff. After the interns’ orientation, it was straight to work for all of us. In my case, it involves reading questionnaires and usability reports, which mostly isn’t that bad, but I just get lost in the stuff that I’ve never heard of. On the plus side, I have more of an indication about my Big Project for the summer. Yay!

I’m so sleepy… got in at about 8am this morning, and at 7am yesterday. Kinda early, but it’s all because I have a lot to do and I don’t want to have to stay late to do ‘em. Plus if I get out early, I can go to the ProSports Club and take the free classes they have there. Please note that when I say free, the company is paying for my membership but I still have to pay the tax, which is a pretty good amount of dollars that I’m not gonna say here. The club is beautiful. There seems to be a white and gold theme going on there, and it’s HUGE. Really, really big. They have three exercise rooms filled with elliptical machines, treadmills, TV and an area for floor exercises. They look exactly alike except for one thing: the lighting. One room is really bright, one is dimmer, and one is completely dark. That’s it. That’s the difference. And we’re not talking small rooms here, all three are of equal size and they’re big.

I got my butt kicked in kickboxing yesterday, I haven’t done it since senior year (last semester was devoted to dancing… great fun :) ).Everything hurts, even my neck. I got lost in the women’s locker room.. well more like I lost track of where my locker was, and yes, the locker room is big, too, complete with a lounge area with couches and TV, two tanning beds, a sauna, a whirlpool, rows of showers and bathrooms and lockers as well as a make-up area where you can dry your hair (hair dryer provided for each table) and apply make-up under the perfect lighting. It took me a full 10 minutes to figure out where my stuff was.

It is safe to say that I now officially want to live at the ProSports Club. My apartment is da’ bomb, but the club is so awesome!

Okay, back to work. On to goals and objectives!

Later!

Assalam'alaikum.....

I'm in Seattle!!! I arrived yesterday, at 11.30am Pacific time. Unfortunately, they didn't have my room ready yet, so me and a few other people had to camp out in the key pickup lobby until 3pm. Luckily, one of us had the bright idea of ordering Chinese for lunch. Yummm.... Chinese food. I was pretty bummed at first about having to wait in the lobby, but luckily enough, it was a pretty decent bonding experience, LoL. I met with a few interns and managed to make some friends while eating Chinese food and watching Harry Potter on Chris's laptop. Extremely cool.

Afterwards, I took a cab to my new apartment and met Lauren, my roommate from Tufts University in Boston. She's very cool, which is great considering that we'll be living together for the next two and a half months. We both wanna do the same stuff for the summer, which involves checking out the local gyms, local night life, activities, beaches and of course, the Seattle social scene, whatever that may be. And we were both terrified for our first day. It's a good thing we like each other 'cause now I have someone to go places with. Yay!

My apartment is absolutely amazing. It really is like a hotel. Lauren and I each have our own room and connecting bathroom. We share the living room, dining area and kitchen. The maid (yes, there is a maid... or two) comes once every two weeks to vacuum, dust, change the linens and towels and do some other cleaning related stuff. When I first got here, the linens weren't set up and there were no pillows. One phone call and ten minutes later... poof! Cute guy walks through the door complete with linens and fluffy pillows. He even made the bed, which is extremely cool. First time a guy makes the bed for me instead of the other way around. I was bowled over by the whole apartment. The scenery is gorgeous, there's trees all around, the pool is right behind the apartment.. it was perfect. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about was the fact that it's 15 minutes drive from my office by freeway. And that's where the car comes in.

After orientation today, I had to go to downtown Bellevue to pick up my car. Making the trip downtown was not easy, I wanted to take the bus but missed the right one, there were a lot of conflicting directions and I ended up having to take a cab. So a trip that was originally supposed to cost only $1.50 ended up costing $16 (no reimbursement for this one... darn). I was not a happy camper and was starting to doubt whether or not it was really worth the $360 I'm spending per month for a car. When I got there, I was ready to be told "your car is not ready, you have to wait 30 minutes". Luckily enough, it was ready.... and the car made the trip all worthwhile. It's a white convertible Ford Mustang and is quite possibly the nicest car I've ever driven in my whole life. My jaw just dropped when I saw the black soft top, I had to double check to make sure they gave me directions to the right car, it was insane. No wonder the Avis lady said "Lucky you, you're getting a really nice car." I was happy... until I realized I was stuck in downtown Bellevue with no directions to go back home to Redmond because I didn't have time to MapQuest anything. Lucky enough, I remember the freeway that I needed to get onto, and somehow managed to not get hopelessly lost and got home safely. Of course, it does help when your apartment complex is right off the freeway.

My mentor for the summer is really nice, and I'm looking forward to doing actual work and really applying myself. All these benefits the company gave us are really, really great motivations to an intern :) . I'm just excited, right now I feel like the luckiest person in the world.

Assalamu'alaikum....

It's 6.15am, Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours ago I just got back from Wisconsin, at 9.30am today I'll be on my way to Seattle, WA. Needless to say, tired nak rak. Less than 2 hours sleep last night, migraine in the car the night before. Thanks so much to Zaimi and Napi for driving the whole night yesterday, kalau tak hari ni sure stok yg cam nak makan orang penat instead of the current pening-pening lalat condition. Sempat lagi tuh nak mem blog, have to if not my eyes would start to close and I'll drift off to sleep, terlepas flight kang, tak ke naye jek.

Anyway, Wisconsin was cool, campus is sooo pretty. Student Union boleh minum beer sambil tgk tasik, how cool is that (the tgk tasik part, not the beer lah). Best of all, dapat jumpe Kong!!! And Soon Sim!!! Haven't seen them for 2 years oledy. Congrats to Kong on Purdue's 2nd place in women's basketball. Star playa, tgh sakit also can still place second. Also jumpe Fiejo, who placed 1st in women;s basketball (played against Kong) AND managed to nab MVP. Cheeewah! Terrer ex-classmate :).

You never realize how much screaming you can do until you actually do it. I was annoyed so many times during the weekend, it was tiring. Pelik betul. I hate being screamed at, so the only time I do it to other people is when the person first does it to me. No more, I tell you, no more putting myself in that situation, tak nak dah, tobat dah. My friend was like "Eh, why ask you to walk 3 miles one?. So far". My sentiments exactly. Malas lah nak komen pape. Kesimpulan, have to just suck it up lah, it's not like I can reverse time and do things differently. Poyo.

Aaaaaaaaahhhh benci benci benci. I'm still annoyed. It's like.... what?? Did you just say that to me?? Up satu point to dah malas dah, so senyap jek sebab takut kang meletup. This is one of those times I wish my bro was here so that he can mirror my sentiment physically. Grrr...

At least I'm going to Seattle today. Better go buang sampah, I got half an hour to do that and pakai kasut and tunggu kat luar. I'll be fine.... I just HATE HATE HATE being screamed at. Hate it.

Assalamu'alaikum.....

Okay, so apparently now I'm gonna start at Microsoft on the 31st... and going to the Midwest Games. It's like moving from one extreme to another, one minute I have nothing to do, next minute tetibe byk lah plak bendenye. Gi Wisocnsin on Friday, balik Monday, fly out to Seattle on Tuesday, start work on Wednesday. Ugh.

On the plus side, I'm flying to Seattle first class. First class baby!! Ade jugak eloknye that my I-20 habis lambat than dijangka. Of course, balik sini balik fly coach lah, murah. Bestnye dapat merase first class kat tanah US nie, LoL. Nak sendiri beli tiket, jgn harap. Still rase stewardess MAS jugak yg lawa, even though MAS rugi juta-juta every year, apparently.

Just got my hari cut kat Douglas J salon tadi. Nothing reminds a girl that she hasn't been there for a while than to have your normal stylist forget who you were for the first couple of minutes. Erk. Nasib baik takyah tip, kalau tak ade jugak tip berkurang tuh. Scott gave me a nice classic bob, which I like, but I like my previous hair cut better, ni cam a bit too pendek for my bulat face. But I'll rock it, I always do :) . It was raining cats and dogs when I came in for my appointment that although it was only a 5-minute walk from my car to the salon, by the time I got there, my jeans were soaking wet, and I even had my umbrella. In the middle of my haircut, some of Scott's colleagues came over to comment on what a nice job he's doing with my bob. Suddenly there was a parade of tattoo-clad people, with only underwear on, just running outside the salon. It was so weird, all of them had tattoos all over their bodies, which actually wasn't the weird part. The weird part is that they had no clothes on! Just undies! Running in the rain! Weird people.

Last Monday, Linda and I watched The DaVinci Code at Quality 16. The movie was good, though I did like the book better. I'm not exactly sure how does someone who didn't read the book would follow what's going on, because there was a lot of stuff not explained in the movie, and of course there's also all the symbols involved. But I guess it would boost the sales of the book, then, if people care enough to buy the book after seeing the movie. Sir Ian Mckellen is absolutely everywhere! The X-Men movies, the LOTR trilogies, and now this.... too bad he's gay, he's very good looking for an old guy.

I'm rambling, and it's getting late, I better get on with the packing thing. Later!

Pindah, pindah dan pindah lagik.....

Okay, so a couple of days ago, baru find out from I-Center yg I-20 bakal siap lagi lambat dari yg dijangkakan. Celake tol. So kene tolak internship start date jadi June 6th. Aiyak. So maknenye kne spend Memorial weekend kat Michigan... or Wisconsin, if I decide to go to the Midwest Games. Sume org cakap Wisconsin cantik. Ye ke? Cantik ke? Dah takde org dah nak jumpe... everyone my age is at home. Boo hoo. What am I gonna do with kids around me running around in dipers? Okay.. I'm exaggerating, maybe not diapers, but you get the point. Everyone's gonna be younger than me!! I'm gettin' old, man.

Afzan baru balik M'sia semalam, excited habis. Hopefully I'll be able to come home at the end of this year, too. It'll be more than 2 years since I've seen home come December, so I was thinking I'm gonna go back during the Winter vacation to get my visa renewed, among other things. I just miss home.... the smell of good food, dirty diapers, the screaming voice of kids, Malaysian TV, shopping at Mid Valley, seeing random celebs at 1 Utama (unfortunately, I don't recognize a lot of 'em nowadays, too many Malaysian celebs).

I have a beef to pick with this modeling agency back home which, I heard through a friend, only takes in people who are of mixed parentage or Pan-Asian. I think that's incredibly rude, it's like you're saying if you look pure Malay, or pure Chinese or Indian, then you're not good enough or pretty enough to be represented. It's like... what the hell?? How more blatantly rude can you be?

Enough ramblings for today...

Okay, so right now I'm mad. I've been basically working on packing up my stuff for one week straight now, and today is the last day I have to finish up all my packing, and I'm STILL finding crap around my house. Worse or all, they're not even MY crap. I'm just so mad right now, I'm downright seething. Nak buang, bukan barang sendiri. But there's just so mauch stuff that people randomly leave at my house and then tak reti nak ambik balik.

So here's what I'm gonna do. All things that are not MINE, will be put outside of the apartment, along with stuff that I don't want anymore but may be of use to other people like my computer monitor, drawers, kuali..). So if anyone sees anything of theris, they can damn well take it. If it's not theirs but they want it, then they can still take it. I don't care I don't care I don't care. I just want the things to be OUT. OUT OUT OUT I TELL YOU!!!!

If you think I give a shit whether it's expensive or not or whether the original owner still wants it or not... you have seriously underestimated how pissed off I actually am right now. I hate packing, and I especially hate packing stuff that's not mine. Fuck this.

Okay, so my last post was like barely 10 minutes ago, but I was bored so I decided to watch some TV. Vanessa Minnillo was on MTV, looooove her. She's so hot! Gorgeous, gorgeous woman. I want her hair, her lips, her skin, her body.... basically I just wanna be her. Lol. She is an absolute hottie! Obeserve:

I also have a soft spot for France's rugby team. The players are .... emmm.... drool-worthy. Observe this one:

Okay, so this isn't the most decent photo on earth, but trust me, this is actually one of the more modest ones from the Locker Room Nudes / Dieux du Stade: The French National Rugby Team coffee table book. Wait, there's book you say? Apparently there is! A few of them in fact. Every year they pose nude for the above mentioned book. There are lots of provocative, black and white photos of 'em. Loads. Just try and find the book on Amazon. Apparently photography afficionados love this book because of the "style" and "lighting". I'm sure women would agree with me that lighting has nothing to do with why I like looking at Julien Aries. Je t'aime beaucoup....
Assalamu'alaikum...

Wah, celake betul, credit card dah max out. How the hell did that happen??? Oh wait... I know.... I spent like crazy in Seattle during the interview.... then I spent some more buying shoes... then some more buying clothes. Dude I got to stop spending so much. So it's off to Marshall's and Briarwood Mall to return the shoes I bought. Damn damn damn. Maybe I can return some other crap that I bought... but I've pretty much worn them all. Ooops.

Congrats to Lynn on the impending marriage. God bless and lots of happy wishes.

Assalamu'alaikum....

Afzan and I went to Great Lakes Crossing smalam.... shopping beli2 barang sume... omigosh satu minggu shopping jek, since I had nothing appropriate to wear to work. Everything either too tight or too short , LoL. Ade satu baju tu, I can't even remember why I bought it, sure tgh sale buy 1 free 2 yg dekat Wet Seal tuh, sgt tak appropriate nak pakai gi mane2 pun, nak pakai kat umah ade labuci lah plak kat colla. What the heck. So terpakse ler carik baju2 yg kurang budak-budak and more mature and at least jatuh bawah bontot instead of cover setengah jek.

Setelah byk2 kali shopping.... found a few stuff to wear :) . Hopefully enough for the upcoming three months (pakai baju yg same je lah). However, I found plenty of shoes!! Omigosh kasut kasut kasut merate. My Nike is so old, it started of as blue sekarang tukar warne jadi kelabu (serious tak tipu). Bosan dah pakai Nike, so I set my sights on these pair of Asics running shoes (senang sket, kene kejar, lari jek). Specifically, Asics Gel-Kayano, one of the better running shoes with lotsa padding. Best-best. Jangan tanye price, suffice to say, bengkrap lah jugak. Tak masuk lagi the pair of Stuart Weitzman's I bought at Neiman Marcus (Prada ngan Ferragamo mahal cam nak rak). Hehehe.... on sale yg teramat sgt kot, barely $100, so I think mmg dah out of season though the newer ones nampak lebey kurang same. Sgt cute. Observe:
My shoes aren't exactly like this, 'cause instead of a buckle, I have a small ribbon, pastu ade black trim around the heels, but the plaid is close enough. I already bought a pair of Nine West and Ralph Lauren yg sekarang nak kene pulangkan so bleh cover these pair of shoes.. lol. Why do like these pumps? 'Cause they're soooo comfy. Sgt sedap. Most high heels, pakai nak try pun dah sakit2 dah, these don't. So terpakse ler sacrifice the other two pairs so bleh afford this one, even though the Ralph Lauren pun sedap gak. Ughh... why can't I be rich. Bley simpan sume.

Beli earrings lagik... and baju (of course). Gabak gile Great Lakes Crossing, though takleh compare Mid Valley. Penat jalan ngan Afzan one whole day. Dah lah on the way there, kene force sesat sebab exit tutup. Mase tuh lah baru figure out yg MapQuest ni bile time-time die bodo, mmg macam sial. Rupe-rupenye takyah pun amek the exit, bleh je straight stay on I-696 E nak masuk I-75. Celake betul, habes kete aku, dah lah freeway cam sial jek byk lubang lah, bump lah, ape2 ntah lagik. AAAAAAA.... ngamuk lah ni. Sesat setengah jam since exit dah tutup... last2 jumpe jugak freeway yg dicarik. On the way balik, dah belajar dah yg Mapquest suke soh pusing2, which isn't so bad kalau bukan sebab Michigan freeway pun cam kambing, construction dah habes2 eloknye tak jugak. Balik tuh suke2 stay on freeway sendiri, sampai jugak umah even tho about 20 minutes longer than "jalan pendek" Mapquest.

In about a week, nak kene pindah. Ughh... bosan nye lah. Seb baik umah baru ni on central, kalau tak, tak kuase nak pindah. Every year pindah, asal summer je kene pack. Crap makin byk plak tuh. Grrr... Umah baru nie, personal space kurang sket, sebab takdek storage, so sume bende cram masuk dalam bilik, siap dgn luggage2 skali. Hopefully muat. Cakap pasal luggage, smalam beli travel bag for 25 bucks kat Burlington Coat Factory. Ingat nak beli yg 10 bucks punye, tapi cipoet sgt lah pulak, even tho mmg nak beli hand luggage saje. So upgrade sket. Nyahahaha... punye excited nak pegi Seattle, beli luggage baru, baju baru, kasut baru.... LoL.

Wargh, kene pegi pack barang.... malasnyeeee.....

Assalamu'alaikum....

I'm officially spending my summer in Seattle!! Woohooo!! I'm so happy. The day that I got my offer letter was the weirdest day of my life, honestly. My mood went from an absolute low to an all time high :) . Here's what happened. I had my offer from the "Small Company" (which shall remain nameless for now) on the table, but I was still waiting for the Big Company because after all is said and done, it's my first choice. Anyway, Smally gave me a deadline to reply by Monday, at 5pm. Biggie, on the other hand, couldn't get to me that early. So I decided that I was going to accept Smally's offer, contingent on a few things of course. But somehow my reply never got to the right people, so the deal fell through. I found out Tuesday morning and was so bummed out, because I did everything that was expected of me but there was a miscommunication somewhere. However, half an hour later, Microsoft called and said "Congratulations!".

I'm excited to go! Seattle is gorgeous, and the job experience of course would be priceless. I know how lucky I am to get this, so hopefully nothing happens to screw this up. I can't wait to go! Dunno yet when I'm leaving, but I'm starting at the end of this month, so probably sometime before or during Memorial Day I'll be flying down there.

I bought the "God of War" game for my PS2, along with the accompanying book. I think Deera played it and told me the game is cool. And it really is, I'm definitely not a gamer but I can appreciate the game. Unfortunately the music on the game scares the shit out of me, so I don't play it at night unless Afzan is there with me. We tagged teamed to play the thing, LoL. Honestly, I can see why the game is rated M (for Mature). Exhibit A: naked boobies all around. Large ones. Exhibit B: one way that you can obtain Red Orbs to upgrade weapons is to have sex with two women on a bed (this is early on in the game). By now you can pretty much figure out that guys are predominantly the creator and purveyors of the game. Damn, it's a good game, but I feel really awkward with the boobies all around. Ugh, why does it have to be so good but be so dirty?

I'm sleepy, and I'm gonna play the game for a bit before I got to sleep. Catch ya later peeps!

Assalamu'alaikum......

I'm so confused right now, I hate when I have to make tough decisions like this... and I'm not even out of school yet! I have one good offer on the table, but what I really want is to work with the bigger company (the subject of my obsession... see pervious post). Don't get me wrong, the small company sound great, the project sounds really cool and I would get really valuable hands-on experience working with them. Instead of just working on one thing, I would be able to expand my role (contingent on my performance, of course). But the big company is.. well... big. It's well established, people I've talked to really like working there, and I also like the project that they're working on, too. I've been down to the campus, loved the atmosphere, enjoyed the people I interviewed with, and generally had more of a sense on what I should accomplish by the end of my internship. Most importantly, I've been trying to score and interview for about 3 years now, and this is the first time that I actually felt like the position and the timing is right. So one party needs an immediate answer, while my first choice can't tell me what they decide yet. I guess this is a good problem to have, but it's stressing me out a bit.

What I really want is to work on something I like during the summer. User research, usability testing, interface design.... things that I worked really hard in class to learn and want to apply. I want to work. And of course, I want to get paid (that way I don't have to take on a lot of hours on my PT job next fall). I want to be where I can be most useful. To top of trying to make my impending decision, my passport is expiring by the end of this month. Blinkin' 'eck. Perfect, now I have to spend more money trying to renew the damn thing. Oh, and of course, there's the CPT-expedite fee thing, hich will set me back another $100. Man, this whole internship thing better have a happy ending.

Argh, I'll be so glad when I get everything settled. Oh, and I found out today that my arms are officially huge. Not even my new pair of shoes can cheer me up now :( .

FULL DAY MICROSOFT INTERVIEW

Assalamu'alaikum.....

The title of this post says it all... I've finished a full day of interview at Microsoft. Wow. I can't believe I actually got this far, it seems so surreal. I've never been one of those people who just... get things. I never was one those people who gets to go and have interviews with Intel or IBM or Apple or of course, Microsoft. So for me to actually be here and to have had the experience of today really means a lot to me. Somehow it validates the hard work I've been putting in for the past few years, LoL. Hopefully I get the job, but if I don't, then it was still a great experience anyway. I wish I had stayed on the campus a little longer to take pictures and stuff, but I was tired because I was up since 5.30am this morning just to prep myself, have breakfast and generally to not be late. So after the interviews, I just headed home and had myself a half hour nap.

Anyway, I had a nice day. Aside from the interviews themselves (which were fun.. and fast), I met with Pat from the Microsoft videos (click here for the link, Pat is in Part 2 of the vids) . Pat drives one of the shuttles that basically takes us recruits to the different buildings on campus. I was hopingI would see her, but I wasn't sure if I would or not, so I was pleasantly surprised to see her in the last shuttle I had to take for the day. She knew of course where I recognized her from. I had a nice chat with her, as well as a picture of her in her shuttle in front of Building 19, where my interview process began.

I won't go into details about the interview process itself, there's a lot of info about that already on the web. Suffice to say that my technical questions were more user research/usability testing oriented than programming oriented (due to the nature of the internship). I really hope that I get it, it would be so fun to spend the summer in Seattle. But of course, if this doesn't pan out, there's always Knoxville, Tennessee (more on that later).

Just got back from Nizam and Didee's house for dinner, thank you so much for the hospitality :) . The baby is so cute, can't wait till he's older. Bleh main, LoL. I love babies, pro'lly 'cause I'm such a kid myself.

Tomorrow, off to Pike Place and the world's first Starbucks. Woohoo! Then off to go home... awww...
